The End of a Christmas Tradition

Snow man

I’m sorry to say that after 15 years the snowperson has seen its last day in our window at Christmas. The whole strand of lights gave up. We are sorry to see this tradition end.

Snow Man

I was given the snowperson during a Christmas party white elephant gift exchange. As I remember, I chose the box it was in and no one wanted to “take” it from me. So when the exchange ended I brought the snow person home.

It was funny at the time. At the party, everyone thought I got the whitest of the white elephants. To be honest, so did I. I didn’t think we would use it or keep it beyond that Christmas. We put it in the window alcove behind the mantel. The snowperson spent his life going side-to-side nearly all day during the Christmas season.

I packed and stored it with the other Christmas decorations. The following year we put it in the window again. It was part of our traditional Christmas decorations. As one year leads to another for 15 years the snowperson stood in our window greeting people during the Christmas season. In December 2020 I put it in the window for what turned out to be the last time.

A Christmas tradition ends in an unexpected way just as it began. We will miss this tradition and the snowperson.
